The week of July 18th, 1999 found me pondering the thought of starting a Q2 Lithium  clan. One week later found the newly formed Gods Of Mortality boasting four new members, DEATH ANGEL, M1, Sin, Abaddon. One week beyond that and Maraxus, Slayer(AKA Vacious[T2K]), Kxaxk, Merlin and Astrocreep had also joined the fold. Barely out of the womb and already nine strong!  Here's our story.............

I bought my first computer in January 1999 (a 400mhz PII with a 17" monitor- I paid just over $3,000 for it)  and like most "newbies" had no idea what to do with it except tinker with programs I knew nothing about and look for my favorite actresses on the net. When I "hooked up" the internet was NOT yet in the majority of homes. I was one of the first in our town to get cable (since I worked there) and it was mostly just surfing. These days, we have Facebook, Twitter, myspace  and You Tube. Google itself was only about a year old when I connected. I thought Ask Jeeves was the coolest thing I ever saw.

I was working for the cable company at the time as a service tech and a fellow co-worker -Bill Meyer-offered to install Quake and Quake II onto my system. Being a Playstation junkie at the time I really did not think I had the time or the need to have these games taking up precious space on the 10 gigs I still had open. Being a rookie I was afraid I was going to fill that space up in a matter of months with all the thousands of useless jpgs I was downloading. O.k-O.K so this was a bit naive but as I said before....I was a "newbie" and still had a LOT to learn.

After about two weeks of constant pestering to play against him, I finally connected to Bill's server that he had set up to play him a game. Needless to say it was more like him playing and me looking for a great hiding spot to ambush him with whatever "weapon" I had at the time. Back then I had no idea what a rail-gun was much less runes, binds, skins, mods etc. Well after about ten minutes of being completly humiliated and blown to bits all over q2dm1, Bill finally decided to coach me a little on the game itself. I.E-definition of camping, runes, health, binds, armor and the like. It didn't take long and I was hooked.

Another co-worker and friend of mine (chtulu) had access to the headend at work and managed to set up a dedicated server meant for employees to play on. This was all pre clan days and some of the most fun I have ever had playing video games. Prior to this, it was all Playstation, SNES, Atari etc.

Bertween 7-12 fellow employees would spend the greater part of an evening just hanging out, having fun and fragging  each other until our eyes were strained.  Eventually I downloaded game-spy and Bill slowly but surely stopped playing. A) he started losing B) he got possessed by the Half-life bug. However; myself and M1 continued to hop around from server to server, playing to-gether almost daily on lith and chaos servers everywhere, when one day I decided to download the weapons of destruction mod. I was hooked immediatly!! My gaming now consisted of plazma grenades and the allmighty street-sweeper etc. This is where I eventually met a player from the *2k* clan.

Myself, M1 and *2k*Aries started to see each other more and more online in these WOD servers and were having the time of our lives. Then one day my father was over to visit and had wanted to see me play a game. Don't ask me why, but I started up game-spy and jumped onto a packed lithium server. It was the "borehole" and lucky for me, filled with newbies! I took over the lead quickly. At the end of the map, a player by the name of Johan{AD} asked me if I would be interested in joining his "clan". At that time I had no idea what a clan was or did but it sounded fun so I said "sure dude, i'm in!" and gave it a try.

Well it turns out that clan {AD} "angels of darkness" -used to be rather large but now only consisted of three other players. Azazel, Mithrandir and Johan. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The idea of "clanning up" against all others. The only problem was that we usually only played one server that hardly ever saw any visitors and the web-page was downright lame- Since M1 was a good friend and playing partner of mine he decided to join {AD} as did a player we met named Sin. But at this point I was getting fed up with the way things were going. Thats when I decided to start {GM}. {GM} was created the week of july 18th and members Johan, Sin and M1 all decided to drop {AD} and come with me. Johans' real life brother merlin also jumped aboard and brothers Azazel and Mithrandir went back to their old clan [CE]. NOTE: Johan changed his name to Abaddon shortly after coming over to {GM} He and M1 came aboard during the first week

Well now we had a place to call our own and a fresh new page to be proud of. Things were going great and eventually I was able to get the *2k* member-to join us as slayer{GM}. That was untill of course I found out he was actually a she! Thats when vacious{GM} was born. Members were added pretty consistently from that point on and as of now we have had over 100  members including Azazel and Mithrandir. Yes even they too could not resist this awesome group.

Well a lot has changed since that week in July 1999. Johan quit to play everquest  Sin went on the the [KIS] clan seeing as how it was based in his hometown. Vacious decided to start playing solo again and eventually joined clan [T2K] since it was based in her home town  and Azazel and Mithrandir have both parted ways as well to name just a few.

The clan went through a few website design changes, experimented with different mods and games and seen the roster change from time to time.

November 12th, 1999 saw another change for the clan and it came in the way of a tag switch. I made the decision to go from {GM} to =GoM= on that date  to help set us apart from other gm factions that were showing up on the CLQ..  Note to all -the clq is evil!!!!! For what its worth though we did make it to #1 spot two weeks in a row and #2 two weeks in a row and with the exception of dropping to #6 once, we have remained in the top 5 lith clans for 16 straight weeks-longer than any other clan I know.

The main concern for =GoM= however was never to be the best clan out their or the biggest but to have the most fun and meet the best people. In that repect =GoM= is and always will be #1 in my book. Some of the best people I have ever met are in =GoM= and lifelong friendships have been established. Even if =GoM= dies as a clan, the experience and friendships it has brought me can never be replaced. I will forever be grateful to all the members in this fine group for riding this crazy train with me, past and present and look forward to bigger and better things in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read the history behind this clan and give us an almighty HAIL!! when you next see us on the battle field. Rock on!! DeathAngel=GoM=

Update 2/2010:

The above history review was taken verbatim from our original site but had to be slightly edited to make sense. As of today 2/12/2010 the clan is still kicking, however there was a period of hiatus where we had no web site or active forum that was being used. Communication online had for a large part ceased altogether. There were a handful a members that I stayed in constant contact with over the phone though. Mambok, Big Johnson, M1, Furback, VVV, Prowler, Misery and Duro just to name a few. In edition there has always been at least one or two that contiuned playing with the tags on.  (Slash24, BJ, Wicked, Hammer, Eternal, VVV, Prowler etc)

Just over a year ago I decided it was time for a reunion. That's when I went on the prowl to find as many past members as I could and bring them all together again. To my delight, I was able to contact close to 30 past/current members, enough to justify firing up a fresh forum. Currently, the general consensus agrees that Urban Terror is the new game to play as a clan and there are servers once again seeing the =GoM= tag haunt them! (Thanks to the relentless nagging by Hammer and Frag Sinatra! hehe) I still play Q2 when I can as well as SOF2. Torture=GoM= has since set up a lithium server for us to take advantage of as well.

It's also good to report that there are a handful of original members still poking around. By original I mean those that were here when the tag was still {GM}. Props to Mambok, Frag sinatra, Feedback, M1, furback, Maraxus and Virgo.
